Beryllium

The chemical symbol of beryllium, which is among the alkali elements in the 2-A group of the periodic table, is "Be". Its atomic number is 4 and its atomic weight is 9.012. Its melting point is 1287, boiling point is 2470 degrees. Steel is gray in color. It is a flexible, light and rigid metal made of aluminum. It is one of the lightest metals. In an other saying; It is one of the hardest of light and brittle metals. It is similar to aluminum and magnesium in terms of chemical properties. It contains many properties specific to metals. In other words, it shows metallic and non-metallic properties. Metallic beryllium is very hard and shiny like steel.

Beryllium is an element known as "glucinium" until the 1950s. Being flexible, light and hard, beryllium is a sweet but toxic metal. Beryllium is one of the rare elements in the world. The use of beryllium, which is expensive to obtain, is limited. Beryllium, which has chemical properties similar to aluminum, played an important role in the development of atomic physics. It is an important element used in nuclear technology. It is often used with some alloys and compounds due to its expensive structure. Produced in a limited number of countries and rarely heard about, beryllium plays a critical role in important products.

The discovery of beryllium took place towards the end of the 18th century. French chemist Louis-Nicolas Vaquelin discovered beryllium in the form of oxide between beryllium and emerald crystals in 1798. In 1828, chemists Friedrich Wöhler and Antoine Bussy independently obtained metal beryllium by reducing barium chloride with potassium. Beryl mineral was used only in jewelry until 1925.
