Mendelevyum (ENG) - Gikal

MENDELEVIUM

Mendelevium element is shown as Md. The isotope of the element with atomic number 101 and mass number 256 was artificially obtained in 1957. This element is named after Dmitri Mendeleyev. Mendelevium metal has not yet been synthesized in bulk quantities. All of the studies related to its physical properties have been done on prediction and approach. It is assumed that the melting point of mendelevium is 827 °C. This value is exactly the same as the predicted value for the neighboring element nobelium. Its density is estimated to be approximately 10.3 ± 0.7 g/cm3. A mendelevium atom has 101 electrons, and at least three (and perhaps four) of them can act as valence electrons. The element mendelevium is absent in nature and has a very unstable core structure. So it is quite difficult to produce or detect. Mendelevium has no known application or area of use. Mendelevium does not occur naturally and is not found in the Earth's crust. So for now there is no reason to think about the health hazards.

Mendelevium was founded in 1955 by American Scientists at the University of California, Albert, Ghiorso, Bernard G. Harvey, Gregory R.. Choppin, Stanley G.. Thompson and Glenn t. Produced by Seaborg. During the experiment, an Einsteinium-253 sample was bombarded with alpha particles (helium nuclei) and mendelevium-256 was detected. This atom had a Half-Life of about 78 minutes. As a result of subsequent experiments, several thousand mendelevium atoms were obtained, and today it is possible to produce millions of mendelevium atoms. The longest-lived isotope is mendelevium-260, which has a Half-Life of 28 days.
