Antimon genellikle kurşunu sertleştirmek için, bileşikleri, boya, kibrit, maytap, ateşe dayanıklı malzeme ve ilâç yapımında kullanılır.
Antimon kullanımına tarihte ilk kez MÖ 3100’lü yıllarda rastlanmış. Antimon içeren mineraller, boyasal özelliklerinde faydalanılarak o tarihlerde gözlere sürme çekmek için kullanılmıştır.
